Google Ads for Shopify, starting with numbers that match your orders.
Almost every Shopify account we open has a tracking problem — double-counted purchases, missing revenue, or conversions that disagree with the admin. Until Google and Shopify tell the same story, everything built on top is guesswork.
The Shopify tracking problems we find most
Shopify makes it easy to install three things that all report the same purchase. The account then shows three times the sales, the bidding chases a phantom, and the reported ROAS has no relationship to your bank balance.
The usual suspects
- Double counting. The Google & YouTube channel app, a manual gtag in theme.liquid, and GA4 import all firing for one order.
- Add-to-cart as a primary conversion. The account optimises for people putting things in carts, which is not a business.
- Missing conversion value. Purchases counted, revenue not passed — so target ROAS has nothing to work with.
- Consent banners blocking tags. Legitimate, but if nobody accounts for it, a third of your conversions vanish and the bidding reacts.
- Post-purchase upsells not counted, understating real order value on exactly the products worth scaling.
What we do about it
We check Google's conversion count against your actual Shopify orders for the same window before touching a campaign. If they disagree, that is the first job. We consolidate to one source of truth, make purchase the primary conversion with revenue attached, and then re-verify — because themes and apps break tags without telling anyone, which is why it gets checked again every month.
You cannot scale what you cannot measure, and you certainly cannot scale what you are measuring twice.
Three things that only bite Shopify stores.
They are all fixable, and all commonly missed.
The feed is not your product list
Whatever app pushes products to Merchant Center decides what Google sees. Default settings send supplier titles and skip identifiers — the exports need configuring, not just installing.
Price mismatches that suspend stores
Multi-currency and Markets can leave the feed advertising one price while the page shows another. Google reads that as misrepresentation.
Silent tracking breakage
A theme update or a new app can remove a tag. If nobody re-checks, the account quietly loses conversions and the bidding pulls back.
