Running Google Ads for a seasonal business

The accounts that win the season are the ones that stopped changing things three weeks before it started.

Do not go dark completely

A long pause means the bidding effectively re-learns when you return, and the first weeks back are volatile — at exactly the moment they are most expensive.

The off-season is for the boring work

  • Feed and titles, where mistakes are cheap to discover.
  • Tracking verification.
  • Creative production and testing while impressions are cheap.
  • Landing page and offer work.

Ramp before the curve

Raise budgets two to three weeks ahead in steps, so the bidding learns the higher spend level while the auction is still calm. Raising during the peak puts you into learning at the worst possible moment.
